Napkin Folding 101

How to Napkin FoldI do enjoy decorating a table with stylish napkin folds. It’s fun and inexpensive and adds a lot to your table with little effort. I wish I had a penny for every napkin I have folded over the years! The “elf boot” fold was one I did over and over again every Christmas for all the Holiday parties I decorated and catered.

Anyway, I have put together a couple of articles about folding napkins. There are videos, books and photos to help you along. I hope you will enjoy the art of napkin folding as much as I do!

Holiday Centerpieces

Cake Pedestal CenterpieceThe decorator in me meets up with the budget wary me and they are both happy with this suggestion for Holiday | Christmas Table Decoration!

I love having an item do double duty. Try using a cake pedestal as a base for a unique and different centerpiece this year. I played around with a couple that I have, some holiday decorations and created some fun, different ideas to use throughout the holiday season. the article and pictures are at How to Make a Holiday Centerpiece.

The picture on the left uses a glass cake pedestal, 3 beaded cone trees, ornaments, a small glass bowl and some glittered greenery — all stuff from my kitchen and holiday decor collection.

What have you got that you could make a centerpiece out of?

Christmas Gift Boxes Centerpiece

Christmas Table DecorationI guess I am in a crafting mood! My favorite thing today is the Christmas Gift Box centerpiece. It’s different, not the same old fir boughs and berries with a candle in the middle. Boring!

I like to think outside the box. (pun? what pun?) This craft is actually very versatile and can be made for virtually any holiday — Easter, Valentines, Thanksgiving, Halloween and more. Or maybe themed boxes to match a themed party or event like — Tropical or Beach, or maybe Vintage Hollywood or Las Vegas. I can see it at Bridal or Baby showers for sure. The purpose of those events is giving gifts, so what is more appropriate for a centerpiece?

Anyway, you be the judge. I think it’s simple and elegant. What do you think?

Christmas Balls Tree

Christmas Balls Tree - Ornament Tree

Why make a Christmas table decoration? Because they are fun, versatile and beautiful! I used to make these for fundraisers and craft fairs and they are still my favorite Christmas centerpiece. You can place them on your dining room table, fireplace mantel, holiday food buffet or coffee table during the holidays for a bit my spice to your season. For complete, step by step instructions, check out my article Christmas Balls Tree.

They are not hard to make and will last for years to come. They also make wonderful gifts! What do you get for grandma or the neighbor? Design and make them in any color scheme that chrismas ball ornaments are made — so they match any decor. I have also made them in brown, gold, burgundy and copper for Fall and Thanksgiving. Any shape foam can be used. Have fun with this — off to make another one myself! 🙂

One of my Favorite Suppliers

*Note – I am NOT an affiliate for this company, simply a happy customer sharing a great shopping experience.

COD WholesaleOver my many year career in the event decorating industry I have worked with a number of suppliers. Today I wanted to let you all know about on in particular. COD Wholesale. A few years back, the LED lighted centerpieces had been introduced and the industry was clamoring for suppliers. I let the initial hub-bub die down before I suggested lighted centerpieces to my first bride. She, of course, loved the idea and I went on the search for a supplier.

There are many out there but I ran across SOD Wholesale, liked their simple and informative website and decided to try out a small order with them. I ordered the Floralyte II (has an on-off switch) to try out in several centerpieces the Bride was considering.

They were fast, friendly and I was ecstatic with my new find. That was the beginning of my relationship with COD Wholesale. Since then, I have ordered many, many more Floralytes, lighted centerpiece bases, votives and much more. They have a nice selection and the prices are competitive if not cheaper than most. I always received my orders quickly and they were correct.

So, if you are a Bride or an event host, consider COD Wholesale for your event decorating needs. I highly recommend them as a happy, past customer!

Paris Themed Christmas Tree

Paris ChristmasI have always had a sort of romantic notion of Paris, France. having lived in Paris, IL for 12 years, it just got worse. I ended up decorating my living room with Paris paraphernalia and loved it!

During one Christmas season, I decided to add to my holiday decor by decorating a smaller tree in the Paris theme. I had a blast with it. I looked everywhere for ornaments that would work with the black and white color scheme I had chosen as well as anything that I could hang on the tree depicting the city.

I chose a bucket I found at a local home decor store for the base of the tree. It was black and white and had “Tres Chic” written on it. Additionally, I made ornaments from pearlized plain white ornaments. I used black puff paint to write French words and drew abstract Eiffel Towers on others. (See image)Paris Ornament Close-Up

The result is posted on the left. I just wrote an article at Squidoo about decorating a Paris Christmas tree with resources for doing it yourself.

I also have another article titled Decorating Small Themed Christmas Trees that includes Paris, School Spirit, Girly Girl, Rock n Roll, Golf and few other themes. Small trees can be placed around your home to add to your holiday decor. Make one that matches your kitchen (I had a Coca-Cola tree in my 50’s diner style kitchen too), or highlights a collection or passion. It’s fun and doesn’t cost as much as re-doing your main tree.

Just another of my Favorite Things… Mandee
